It’s Taurus season and we’re back to Reinvent Revolution.
When we think of Taurus, revolution isn’t usually something that comes to mind. Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, the planet of pleasure and beauty. Fixed earth doesn’t exactly want to move, and revolution isn’t exactly filled with pleasure or beauty. So what can we learn from Taurus about revolution?
Well, for one thing: resistance. If there’s one sign who knows how to hold the damn line, it’s Taurus. So when I think of Taurus lessons for revolution, I think of strikes. Protest through inaction.
With the Venus piece, being the planet that rules lazing about and having a good time, I think of workers strikes (if there’s anyone who is down to call out of work, it’s Venus).
Money is also ruled by Venus, so fixed earth Venus also feels like spending strikes.
So this Taurus season, I encourage you to go on a corporate spending strike.
Capitalism wants you to feel not enough because it keeps you in the endless rat race to buy products that will finally make you perfect and happy. The more you can be in the joy of what you already have and are, the less stuff they can sell you.
Enjoy what you HAVE. Let yourself BE. Embody pleasure as an act of resistance.
Make your spending strike more than just a one day thing. Make it a week, make it two weeks, maybe even the rest of Taurus season.
Obviously you’re going to have to spend money in this time, you’ll still need to eat, but the money you do spend, spend it with small businesses.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting yourself a treat. Heck, it’s Taurus season! Plus walking into a local business and spending $20 makes a HUGE difference to those businesses. It’s a win win. A fun treat for you, and direct support to people who are in, and creating jobs in communities you care about.
The more we shop with and from each other, the more we circulate and build an economy that doesn’t siphon our resources out to billionaires.
Whatever you were going to get on Amazon, take the drive and buy it from your local super market, hardware store, downtown shopping area, etc.
If you do this for more than a week, you will be training yourself for how easy it is to do, and hopefully it becomes a habit that sticks.
It may cost you an extra dollar here and there, but keeping that dollar in your local economy and out of a billionaires hand is way better for you, me, and the rest of the 99% in the long run.
Some questions to consider
Clarifying questions for Taurus Season:
What do I value?
Where can I embody my values more?
What are the things I buy most on Amazon/Target that I can find locally?
What do I already own that makes me feel luxurious?
What local businesses need my support?
