Liam Nenno (they/them) is a Salem resident and small business owner, specializing in interior finishes as well as small-scale exterior painting projects. HausWitch's interior was painted by Liam, including the custom shelves and hearth (which was the very first project they did for Erica Feldmann way back in 2019).
Liam's HausWitch mural is full of personality; some from Liam, some from the shop's online presence, some from what you might find when browsing the shop IRL. At the heart of it is a shared love for the city of Salem. With the opportunity to take up space for a short time on HausWitch's Local Artist's Wall, Liam hopes this piece reaches some kind of joy in each observer.
"The inspiration is this shop; I wanted the mural to reflect the colors and themes that are happening around me, and make references to things you might find around the store... like Wavy Cat and Winnie the Witch. I wanted this mural to be something where the longer you look at it, the more you see. It's very physical. I like the aspect of moving around a ladder and using my body, stretching my arms out... just taking up space."
Liam started Foxtail Painting in 2012 after acquiring a BFA from Gordon College the year prior. Liam has a skillset honed by many years of house painting mostly solo and sometimes alongside local paint crews and carpenters. When a creative project is commissioned, they jump to the task with a visual mind, ready to bring out the visions of their commissioner and compliment the space with lasting finishes. Liam uses not just color, but also sheen to create textures and depth in a way that shows their familiarity with paint products.
