Is there anything crystals CAN’T do? Keep themselves clean! Dust is gonna happen no matter how magical you are, and your crystals deserve a little TLC anyways- on the surface AND deep down in their vibes!
If you've heard people talking about "clearing" or "cleansing" their crystals, that just means that it's either a new crystal still carrying the energy of everyone else who touched it in the shop, or they've been putting a lot of their own energy into it. Crystals are individuals just like us, and it's just good manners to keep them clear.
But let's start with the basics!
On the surface
For dust, wiping your crystal down with a soft cloth is usually enough to restore the shine. Be careful of crystals like Kyanite and Selenite that are rougher on the surface and can "shed" or can get caught on fabric. Ditto clusters with a lot of points; for those you want to carefully wipe each point and the valleys in between rather than using a broad stroke across the whole piece. You can use a soft-bristled toothbrush or mascara spoolie for this as well!
A feather duster is your friend; feathers are good at scattering dust without knocking over all your stuff, and can get into spots too delicate for a cloth!
Some crystals can't get wet, so it's best to Google what you've got before jumping into cleaning with any liquids. But once you know it's safe, a short soak in a tub of water can loosen up really stubborn specks of dirt to be wiped away later.
Sometimes crystal shops will put a price or specimen sticker on the bottom of decorators that can leave a little gunk behind- for liquid-safe crystals we totally recommend Sanctuary! Not only will a little bit on a cloth get the goo off, the ingredients were chosen to be energetically balancing as well. Lazy witches, this one's for you!
In the Vibes
Well we already talked about Sanctuary, and honestly that could be the final word! But there are tons of other ways to cleanse your crystals of stale energy that don't require liquid or even much effort.
Sunlight is great for both cleansing and re-charging your crystals, just be aware that some colors can fade in direct sun after too long. This is a great choice for anyone who feels aligned with fire (especially with strong Leo, Sagittarius, or Aries placements).
Moonlight is another excellent option, and the phases of the moon can help you figure out what energy is best aligned with your intentions: a waning moon is best for clearing, while a waxing moon is best for charging.
Smoke is a common cleanser for crystals; you can use an herbal bundle or incense and pass your crystal through the plume. Or if you're not into burning stuff in your space, you can use an energetic clearing spray like Banish!
For our water witches who wish every rock could take a bath, a bowl of salt recalls the magic of the sea! Just place your crystals in the bowl, cover them with salt, say a little spell or prayer, and leave them overnight. Make sure to dust all the salt off in the morning.
