MOON SIGN 101: CARING FOR YOURSELF + OTHERS

MOON SIGN 101: CARING FOR YOURSELF + OTHERS

Almost everyone knows their Sun sign—it’s the easiest part of a natal chart to figure out. But Sun signs are far from the only part of our charts. There are six other visible planets to account for, plus three “outer planets” (those you need a telescope to see), and even some stars that can be considered parts of our cosmic map. The one we're digging into today is our moon sign.

Moon signs and your wellbeing

There’s only one other really big shiny thing in the sky, besides the sun: the Moon! In some ways, the Moon is basically the nightlight version of the Sun. In a natal chart, the Moon tells us a bit about our hidden side, our emotions, our bodies, our whims and comforts, how we seek care, and how we give care to the world around us.

While the Sun indicates someone’s inner fire, the Moon gives us clues to how best care for our own and others’ inner wellbeing. This matters in all kinds of relationships. Understanding and respecting your own Moon sign makes it so much easier to ensure you’re getting the emotional nourishment you need, and understanding the Moon signs of your nearest and dearest will allow you to actively contribute to their happiness and emotional safety—in other words, Moon signs are keys to better relationships.

Your moon sign represents your emotions and inner world.

These things feel especially important now. In the Northern Hemisphere, winter’s dark drag dampens vitality and contributes to emotional flatlining. On top of that, world politics can make it hard to remember the power and importance of actively tending to the web of connection we live within. Remember, it’s not selfish to spend time with your friends, family, and beloveds—in fact, community is crucial for our survival.

How best to care for yourself and others

Below are some very brief insights into how you can care for your own Moon sign, and some suggestions for caring for others’ Moons. We are so much more than a single part of our chart; how your Moon manifests in your life will be impacted by where your Sun is, what your Ascendant is, and what other planets might be interacting with your Moon in some way. The best way to get deep insight into your unique Moon is to book a session with a professional astrologer (there’s a list of recommended ones down below!).
