My friends, we have some super exciting astrology going on this week. If you haven’t yet heard, Jupiter is officially in Cancer. If you have already heard, the reason astrologers are talking about this left, right, and center is because Jupiter is what’s called exalted in Cancer.
What does "exalted" mean?
In traditional astrology, every (traditional) planet has a sign in which it is exalted. To be exalted means to be in a position of high honor and rank. It isn’t a sign that it rules, but it is a sign that aids the best qualities of that planet. A place where that planet's rough sports are almost smoothed out for them. For Jupiter, the planet of luck, wisdom, and expansion, that sign is Cancer, the sign of nurturing, protection, and feminine wisdom. When I think of Jupiter in Cancer, I think of The High Priestess, or the willow tree in Pocahontas.
It is great astrological news to have any planet in exaltation, but Jupiter, being the greater benefic, is a moment for pause. Jupiter isn’t the slowest moving planet by any means, but it stays in a sign for about a year, so the last time we had an exalted Jupiter was Summer 2013 - Summer 2014. It’s not every day that we get the greater benefic in such a strong position, so it is certainly a cause of celebration.
Now Jupiter has been in Cancer for several days now, but we get two very big Jupiter hits this week.
1) The Jupiter Cazini on Tuesday 6/24, and
2) The New Moon in Cancer on 6/25 that is conjunct Jupiter
What is a "cazimi"?
A Cazimi is when a planet is in exact conjunction (down to the arc minute) with the Sun. This is an important moment for a planet as it is basically ‘recharged’ by the light of the Sun, which is the major life-giving force in the zodiac. We get a Jupiter Cazimi every year, and it is always a nice time to call on Jupiter, but we only get an Exalted Jupiter Cazimi once every 12 years.
Like we said, Jupiter is the greater benefic. Jupiter wants to grow, enjoy, experience, and find meaning. Jupiter wants to know your dream, and help you make it real. A Jupiter Cazimi is always a great time to whisper your heart's desires up to the sky. But this year, not only is this Jupiter exalted, the very next day, our sweet Moon, the ruler of Cancer, joins the party for the New Moon in Cancer on 6/25 at 6:30AM EST.
New Moon In Cancer
For those of us in Salem, or anywhere else on the east coast, this lunation takes place almost exactly at sunrise. And the symbolism of that is almost too much honestly. A lot of astrological alignments can feel hard to grasp as we often aren’t able to see them, or they happen at random times of day or night, but this beautifully auspicious new moon is one we can all take a moment to feel should we decide to take it in. Will we be able to see Jupiter, or the moon? No, absolutely not, not unless we want to go blind in the process, but can watching the break of day aid in your symbolic experience of this incredibly powerful astrological alignment? You bet your ass it can! And is remembering to be humbled, and experience magic out of your entire life, even the little moments like a sunrise or sunset what Jupiter wants from us? You bet your ass it is!
So mark your calendars, get out a pen and paper, write your biggest wishes down this week and whisper them to Jupiter and the Moon as they hover above us all day with the Sun.
