These handmade silk pillows started as a daydream (inspired by a Magical Plants workshop with Melissa Madara) that Maia of ROBBERSDAUGHTER brought into the waking world. Silk is the ideal pillow material for skin + hair health, and Mugwort is the Queen of Dreamland, so these babes are basically perfect. "To prepare the silk, I first soak the material in a vat made from oak tannin and mugwort.
Then I create the botanical designs on the silk. I use plants that have been sourced locally- a few that have been in the mix are coreopsis, sumac, hibiscus, ginkgo, strawflower, cosmos, mugwort, dahlia, marigold, smoke bush, and buckthorn.
Then I overlay a carrier blanket soaked in natural dye
Then I roll the bundle up, and tie it (sometimes with my pal) and then we steam it overnight...
...and then the reveal!"
