Sarah Spurlock is a writer, artist, and dancer in Los Angeles.

Growing up in evangelical Christianity in the Y2K era, Sarah dutifully followed a path laid out by generations of women before her. At 22, she got married as a result of her religious community’s strict adherence to purity culture. After seven years of a painfully mismatched marriage, she summoned the courage to leave - the first in her family to end her marriage.

Following her divorce in 2017, Sarah then fell into a life-threatening restrictive eating disorder that landed her in treatment for sixteen weeks. These two concurrent events opened her eyes to the Christian and patriarchal systems that trapped her in a life that never really felt like her own. Since then, Sarah has committed her life to creating a space for women and girls who also came of age in Y2K purity culture to reclaim their power and resist the systems that trapped them.
