Laura Jean Floral is an award-winning floral company in Boston. This is a taste of a flower healing event they hosted at HausWitch on August 17, 2017.
Lavandula (common name lavender) is a genus of 47 known species of flowering plants in the mint family, Lamiaceae.
And we are absolutely obsessed with it.
Lavender has so many magical properties and such a storied history it became an obvious choice for us to include in our signature healing arrangements.
Making Flower Magic
Healing arrangements were borne out of our desire to tap into the healing benefits of the flowers and herbs we work with every day. At Laura Jean Floral, we like to believe the quality of life of a florist is high because our hands are always in the freshest and most vibrant blossoms of the season. We work with nature to create beauty—a meditative process we feel lucky to engage with. For healing arrangements, we like to include particular flowers and herbs that have symbolic and therapeutic value to create a space that feels magical.
The Power of Lavender
Used across centuries for a variety of medicinal, therapeutic, and spiritual purposes, lavender has a positive and impactful presence in any arrangement. We use lavender for the base of our signature healing arrangements in the summer because it's a powerful plant and readily accessible in New England. Lavender is often used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation, peace, and love and counter insomnia and depression. In the home specifically, it is known to promote joy and healing. Lavender is a versatile herb, commonly used in tinctures, pillows, essential oils, incense, and bath salts. We believe that the aesthetic value of healing arrangements and the meditative engagement in their creation is a fun and different way to take advantage of lavender's healing properties.
Floral arrangements have their own special powers. Every creation at Laura Jean Floral is made with intention and love and we feel that shows in the impact they make in any given environment. We pay special attention to the colors, movement, and form of our arrangements and the long stems of lavender provide wonderful expressive movement, tapping into feelings of freedom and creativity, especially when paired with other wildflowers that have a similar movement. For instance, soft aromatic focal blossoms like roses can bring out the more soothing qualities of lavender.
Florals and Meditation
The practice of making and living with a healing arrangement helps us remain present and in touch with our environment of both our living space and the world around us. It is important to slow down and mindfully connect with our creative selves and find little ways to improve our lives.
