What: Virgo New Moon / Eclipse Season briefing
When: Saturday 8/23 at 2:05 AM EST
The Astro Jargon:
Much like Leo season, we enter into Virgo season with a new moon right out the gate. This lunation is special IMO for a couple reasons.
1) its the first of three lunation during Virgo season
2) it’s the only lunation we get during Virgo season that isn’t an eclipse.
Eclipses happen when the Sun and Moon are at the Lunar Nodes, Whenever there is a full or new moon within 15º of the nodes, we have an eclipse. The nodes change signs about every 1.5 years, but because of the 15º orb, we began having eclipses on the Virgo/Pisces axis well over a year ago, and will have another couple rounds of eclipses here before it is done.
The Sun and Moon are the two luminaries of the zodiac, the light giving planets. In traditional astrology, light is thought to represent the life giving force. That said, astrologically, eclipses are a time where the energy is thought to be a bit unstable. The life giving forces going dark indicated a time where the energies were unstable and unpredictable.
There is a feeling of eclipses where fate and destiny can come into play. It can be a time where we look back and can pinpoint ‘thats where things really started to change’. Not every eclipse season will effect everyone, and the effects aren’t necessarily bad our good. Eclipse seasons act like a chaotic neutral, but when they hit for us it can feel like a very new wind in our sails.
So, that said, this is the only lunation we get during Virgo season that isn’t an eclipse, and it’s taking place in the task-masters home. During eclipse season, it’s best not to push yourself (or anything else), but just to see what comes in and leave time in your schedule to navigate unexpected things that may come up. And what a perfect new moon to take a moment of pause and do a bit of a check in with yourself for how you can best get yourself ready for the next several weeks.
The only thing aspecting this new moon is Uranus in Gemini which is forming a square with this lunation. This is a bit of an itchy signature, as Uranus likes to get us to shake things up a bit, so perhaps you’ll have some flashes of insight for how to set yourself up for eclipse season in a brand new way, or perhaps this will just feel like the pregame to the ever-unpredictable eclipse season rodeo. We’ll just have to see, but for now…
What it means for you:
It’s eclipse season babe. Sit back and see where the tide takes you. Don’t fight to swim too hard in any particular direction, just see where the current takes you and figure out what to make of it once you get there. Take this lunation, get your house clean, get as ahead of your tasks as you can, map out systems and game plans for trouble-shooting, and then learn how to let it all go when the messiness of eclipse season challenges our virgoan desire for control.
Sending you the best. Take care, I’ll catch you next for Libra season.
